The Northern Ireland Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers (NIACUS) is responsible for all appointments of official umpires to matches played under the auspices of the NCU.

NIACUS was originally formed in 1949 as the Northern Ireland Cricket Umpires Association with the purpose of improving the standard of umpiring within the NCU. In 1998, the Association welcomed scorers into its ranks, although it should be noted that scorer appointments are a matter for clubs.

In addition, NIACUS members are heavily represented on Cricket Ireland’s international and national umpire, scorer and referee panels and play a key role in a variety of other tasks, including umpire, scorer and referee appointments, education and development.
