The Future Series begins this week with the T20’s at Belmont, Stormont and Middle Road.
Chair of selectors Andrew Cowden commented on the first Emerging Knights squad announcement of the season:
“The selectors have selected a squad of 15 for the four T20 games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Sam Topping is unavailable due to Sussex commitments, James West and Alex Armstrong are both unavailable due to holiday and Jake Egan is unavailable due to injury. Mohammad Aahil, who has shown great form in the last few weeks, will be part of the Ireland Academy squad this week.
We have selected 15 players over the week to manage a number of players’ workloads as well as selecting a range of our most promising young players accompanied by a couple of our more experienced players.
I’m pleased and excited to say the average age of our squad is under 20 including seven Under 19 players. We hope that the games this week and the future series allow our younger players to gain valuable exposure at the next level to accelerate their learning and development.
Finally, CJ van der Walt will captain the team and I wish CJ and his team all the best for the T20 fixtures this week.”
