Ulster Plate 1st Round Summary and Quarter-Final Draw

The Ulster Plate got underway on Sunday resulting in 4/8 NCU teams progressing to the quarter-final and an unfortunate bow out for last year’s competition winners Waringstown II.

Bready II beat CSNI II by 18 runs
CIYMS II beat Ardmore II by 153 runs
Donemana II beat Waringstown II by 6 wickets
Eglinton II beat North Down II by 86 runs
Lisburn II beat Fox Lodge II by 2 wickets
Muckamore II beat Newbuildings II by 133 runs
St Johnston II beat Cliftonville Academy II by 2 wickets
Woodvale II beat Brigade II by 8 wickets

Lisburn II – Cameron Doak was the pick of the bowlers dismissing batsmen 3,4,5 and 6 and finishing with impressive figures of 4-41. He was ably supported by Richard McConkey who took 3-46. In the chase, continuing on from his mammoth 212 from 128 balls on Saturday, Chris Burns hit 115 from 72 balls to add to his enjoyable weekend of cricket.

CSNI II – Gareth Thompson finished with figures of 3-42 and there were 2 wickets apiece for James West and Connor De Wet to restrict Bready II to 207ao. They were unable to chase down the total and finished 18 runs short. The top scores were Gareth Thompson with 39 and Regan West falling one run short of his 50.

CIYMS II – Young-gun Carson McCollough smashed 118 in a total of 236-5 which proved to be too much for Ardmore II as they were dismissed for 83 with Angus Farrell taking an excellent 5 wickets and Mark Best hitting the stumps on 3 occasions for his 3 wickets.

Waringstown II – Opening bat Rory Bessell top scored with 66 in Waringstown’s 175 which unfortunately wasn’t enough to get them over the line despite 2 wickets apiece for Bessell and Jack Snell.

North Down II – 2 wickets each for youngster Jacob McClure-Dalzell and Josh Corbett in Eglinton’s first innings score of 257-8. North Down II came up short by 86 runs, Gavin Anderson hit a well-made 63 with Tom Crothers scoring 33 in the North Down innings.

Cliftonville Academy II – The experienced Jonny Terrett scored 49 in Cliftonville Academy’s first innings total of 158. Wickets tumbled in the chase but St. Johnston II managed to get over the line winning by 2 wickets despite the valiant efforts of Matthew McCord (4-35) and Jonny Terrett (4-27).

Muckamore II – With the biggest team total and individual score of the round, talented youngster Ewan Wilson hit a huge 174 with 12×4’s and 14×6’s and got his team to 354-5 with Jude Keates pitching in with an impressive 50 of his own. The wickets were shared between the Muckamore bowlers with Sam Magee being the pick with 2-30.

Woodvale II – Harry Warke was in devastating form with the bat scoring 124 with 12×4’s and 9×6’s and was supported by Ewan Scott who scored 37. With the ball, James Rose led from the front with 3-22 and Harry Warke chipped in with 2 wickets to round off a great all-round performance in the match.
