Ulster Bank Awards 2014 – Niranjan Godbole and Billy Dale

Robin Walsh

Lurgan’s Niranjan Godbole has been one of the most prolific run scorers in the NCU since he first played for the club 12 years ago – and he’s got a cabinet full of trophies to prove it.

Two centuries so far this season have taken the 37 year old Indian all rounder’s tally of prestigious Ulster Bank League awards to a record-breaking 24. The award go to players who score a century, take at least six wickets or perform a hat-trick in the four sections of the Ulster Bank Senior League.

All but one of the awards were for centuries – the exception was a hat-trick with his off breaks three years ago.

Cooke Collegians’ bowler Billy “Bumper” Dale proves just how evergreen he is as he becomes the oldest player ever to receive a prestigious Ulster Bank League award – at the ripe old age of 66.

The awards are for players who score a century, take at least six wickets or perform a hat trick in the four sections of the Ulster Bank Senior League and the retired school principal did the trick with his 7 for 14 against Laurelvale.

The veteran of seven clubs down the years – including North Down where he won three league and three senior cup medals – has no intention of hanging up his boots thanks to daily visits to the gym.

Also in the picture are Sean Murphy of Ulster Bank and Billy Boyd, President of the NCU.
