Dundrum Cricket Club Thriving At Junior Level

Jeff Maguire

Dundrum Cricket Club is thriving at junior level after getting an overseas coach and in less than 5 years they now have under 11’s, 13’s, 15’s and Colt teams.

The Club is celebrating 50 years in NCU cricket and later in the month will be playing a game against an NCU President’s (Billy Boyd) select team in The Meadow on Sunday 27th July. The side will be made up of players from mainly junior teams as many have been great supporters and friends of the village side over the years.

Dundrum First eleven have had a very poor season this year, failing to win in either section one or cup games but that is mainly due to the fact that they cannot get even close to their strongest side on the pitch and with overseas player Rahi Kakade missing a lot the games through injuries it was always going be tough task in a very competitive Section One.

Dundrum are definitely in rebuilding stage as the coaching set up improves each year and the next step is club accreditation. The club are producing excellent all rounders. with the pick of them James Martin, Scott Symington, Terry Hutley, Andrew Forster and 13 year old Stuart Campbell.

With the Club going on their first ever two day tour to Ayr, playing two games, the future is secured for players for both senior teams, so yes no doubt the first eleven continue to fight for survival but a few seasons in a slightly less demanding section will help the younger players gain experience and be more competitive and hopefully get back into the highest standard possible.
