NCU Coaches Association – Wicket Keeping Workshop on 30th July

NCU Coaches Association

The NCU Coaches Association (NCUCA) is holding a wicket keeping workshop on Wednesday 30th July from 1.30pm – 4pm at Civil Service North of Ireland Cricket club as part of the club’s Belfast Cricket Coaching Camp.

The workshop is free to NCU Coaches Association Members – if not already a member, you have the opportunity to become one. More information about the benefits of being a member can be found here: www.cricketireland.ie/get-involved/coaching/CICA

The work shop is part of CSNI Cricket Club’s Belfast Cricket Coaching Camp that is taking place next week beginning 28th July. The camp is being managed by Andy Cowden, one of the NCUCA Coaches, and he has been able to organise some of the top coaches from the NCU to help deliver sessions for the players at the camp.

A feature of this season’s camp is the addition of Paul Tweddle of Somerset County Cricket Club to the coaching group. Paul, who is an ECB Level 4 Coach (the highest level achievable), will be in attendance on Wednesday 30th July when he will conduct a specialist wicketkeeping clinic for players and coaches.

For Coaches
All fully paid-up NCUCA member coaches are able to attend Paul’s clinic for free and take part as observers during the clinic. The workshop for coaches will start at 1.30pm and finish at 4pm* on Wednesday 30th July. This clinic is a great opportunity for NCUCA coaches to see a top coach ‘in action’ and get some ideas for coaching probably the ‘most specialist’ of fielding positions. Paul will look at the basic set up for ‘keepers and look at where and how to stand to different types of bowlers, provide you with ideas for drills that you can do with your ‘keepers, look at the art of diving and also take in some advanced skills like receiving the ball from a throw, which begs the question, “do ‘keepers take the ball behind the stumps or in front of the stumps?”. Paul will look to provide his own thoughts on what might work best.

*Please note – The times for coaches to attend the workshop are different from the players, as outlined below, the players will be there from 10am on Wednesday. It is imagined that Paul will give a summary of what was worked on in the morning session at the start of the afternoon session.

For Players/Participants
The clinic is available to all players, either as part of the Coaching Camp or as a stand-alone single day course. With ten of the twenty available spaces already allocated for this wicket keeping clinic demand is likely to be high for the remaining spots.

CSNI have been able to assemble a top quality coaching team and the excellent addition of Paul Tweddle will provide a superb learning opportunity for young cricketers in the local area.

The cost of the Camp is as follows:

  • Coaching Camp week: 10.00 – 16.00 daily – £80
  • Wicketkeeping Clinic: 10.00 – 16.00, Wed 30 July – £30 (if not a NCUCA member)
