It was a fantastic night for local cricket at Newtownabbey Borough Council’s annual Sports Awards on April 25.

Ireland all-rounder Paul Stirling won the Adult Sportsperson of the Year award, while Templepatrick Cricket Club picked up the Club of the Year gong.

Templepatrick CC’s Cricket Development Officer, Andy McCrea, was named Coach of the Year – recognition of years of hard work and dedication to promoting cricket within Newtownabbey and beyond.

McCrea, who last year picked up the ECB Sky Sports European Outstanding Coaching Award, said it had been a great night for local cricket. “It was a fantastic night for Templepatrick Cricket Club, and for local cricket in general,” he commented. “This recognition shows how cricket is growing in popularity and it’s great for the future development of the game.”

Paul Stirling couldn’t be at the event, so his award was collected by his father, Brian.
