The Schools’ Under 11 League has seen the number of teams entering double for 2013.
The League has increased from four to eight schools, with a Premier League and First Division in place. The Leagues will take place during May and June 2013.
The schools participating in 2013 are:
|Premier League||Division One|
|Campbell College Junior;||Ben Madigan Preparatory|
|Inchmarlo Preparatory||Brooklands Primary|
|Downey & Fullerton Preps (combined)||Harmony Hill Primary|
Each team in the Premier League will play each other home and away in a traditional league competition and teams in Division One will play each other once with a final to decide the League winner. The Under 11’s League will continue to see the development of hard ball cricket in Primary Schools and also further strengthen the link between school and club cricket.
Nigel Jones, Cricket Ireland’s Regional Development Officer in the Northern Cricket Union and Simon Johnston, Active Communities Coach for Belfast Community Sports Development Network, have been working closely with Primary Schools to develop hard ball cricket, improving player skills and increasing awareness of the game. This work is vital in continuing the growing popularity of cricket within the Northern Cricket Union and across Ireland.
Nigel Jones, Cricket Ireland’s Regional Development Officer in the Northern Cricket Union, said: “It’s an exciting time to be involved in Irish Cricket and this is another example of some of the developments happening at the grass roots level here in Ireland. There is no doubt that this is a great development for Cricket within the Northern Cricket Union and I want to take this opportunity to wish all the schools involved in the 2013 competition all the best – now fingers crossed for some sunshine.”
