The Northern Knights have announced their squad for the 2026 season, as anticipation builds for the upcoming Inter-Provincial Series.
The men’s Inter-Provincial Series gets underway on 2 June with the opening round of the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy, as defending champions Leinster Lightning travel to Bready to face the North West Warriors. The 2026 competition will once again feature Leinster Lightning, Northern Knights, and North West Warriors, with teams competing across two white-ball formats: the Inter-Provincial Cup (50 overs) and the Inter-Provincial Trophy (T20). This year marks the 14th edition of the series since its reintroduction in 2013.
The Northern Knights squad reflects a strong blend of experience and emerging talent, following a productive winter of preparation led by Head Coach Simon Johnston and his staff.
Newly appointed Representative Director Jonathan Bushe praised the work done behind the scenes and expressed confidence in the group heading into the campaign.
“Simon Johnston and his coaching team have put in a huge amount of work over the winter, as have the players with their commitment throughout that period,” said Bushe. “We’re looking forward to the season ahead and feel we have the strength and depth within the squad to really challenge within the new set-up. The games will provide a great test for the group.”
Bushe also welcomed the appointment of Matthew Humphreys as captain, highlighting the significance of his leadership role moving forward.
“Matthew’s appointment as captain is a really positive one – at just 23, he represents a forward-looking choice and someone the group of players, and the wider Union, can get firmly behind as we head into the new season.”
The Northern Knights will now turn their attention to final preparations ahead of the opening fixtures, with ambitions high for a strong showing across both formats in 2026.
